International Removals to New Zealand
Moving from the UK to New Zealand is one of the longest international relocations you can make. Whether you are heading to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, or Dunedin, Anglo Pacific manages every stage of your removal, from packing at your UK home through to delivery at your New Zealand address. We handle sea freight, New Zealand customs clearance, and biosecurity preparation, so you can focus on your new life rather than the logistics behind it.
We have been moving people from the UK to New Zealand for over 40 years. As members of the British Association of Removers (BAR) and FIDI FAIM accredited movers, we meet internationally recognised quality standards at every stage. Whether you are moving a small selection of furniture or the full contents of a family home, we adapt the service to your volume and budget.
Shipping Options for Your Move to New Zealand
We offer three shipping methods for UK to New Zealand removals: Groupage, FCL (Full Container Load), and air freight. Each serves a different move size and urgency. Our team will recommend the most appropriate option at your pre-move survey once your volume and timeline are confirmed.
Groupage
Groupage means your belongings travel in a standard shipping container alongside goods from other customers moving to the same New Zealand port. You pay only for the space your consignment occupies, making Groupage the most cost-effective option when your volume does not fill a full container. It is particularly well suited to smaller moves, one and two-bedroom homes, and customers who are shipping furniture or personal effects rather than a complete household.
Your goods are professionally packed and inventoried at your UK home before being consolidated at our warehouse. The container is sealed once the required volume is reached and departs for New Zealand on the next available sailing.
FCL (Full Container Load)
An FCL gives you sole use of a standard 20ft or 40ft shipping container. Because the container is yours alone, it departs as soon as loading is complete, without waiting for other consignments to consolidate. FCL is the practical choice for larger household moves, three-bedroom homes and above, or for customers who require a confirmed departure date. Transit times are approximately 2 weeks shorter than Groupage for the same destination.
Air Freight
Air freight to New Zealand is available for priority items or smaller consignments where speed matters. Delivery by air freight takes up to 10 days from dispatch. The cost per kilogram is considerably higher than sea freight, so air freight is best reserved for documents, valuables, or essential household items needed at your destination before the main shipment arrives.
Confirmed Transit Times: UK to New Zealand
The times below are warehouse-to-door approximate transit times based on Anglo Pacific operational data. Groupage times reflect the consolidation and sailing schedule from the UK; FCL times are approximately 2 weeks shorter for the same destination. Inland road delivery within New Zealand, where required, adds 7 to 21 days.
| Destination | Groupage | FCL | Air Freight |
| Auckland (North Island) | 10 to 14 weeks | 8 to 12 weeks | Up to 10 days |

New Zealand Customs and Biosecurity
New Zealand Customs Service
All household goods and personal effects entering New Zealand must be declared to and cleared by the New Zealand Customs Service. Most used household goods and personal effects that you have owned and used for at least 12 months prior to departure are eligible for duty-free import, provided they are for personal use and not for sale. New items purchased specifically for the move, gifts, and commercial goods are generally not covered by this concession and may attract import duty or GST.
Anglo Pacific prepares your customs documentation as part of the removal service and guides you on how to declare your goods accurately to avoid delays at the New Zealand port of entry.
Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Biosecurity
New Zealand enforces some of the most rigorous biosecurity rules in the world, administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). The purpose of these rules is to protect New Zealand’s agricultural sector and native ecosystems from pests and diseases. All items in your shipment are subject to biosecurity inspection on arrival, and certain goods require treatment, modification, or in some cases will be refused entry.
Items of particular concern to MPI include: certain wooden items and timber products (including wooden furniture with soil or bark); garden tools and equipment; sports equipment that has been used outdoors (particularly boots, bicycles, and camping gear); food items including honey, seeds, and plant material; and animal products including untreated leather and feathers. Your dedicated account manager will advise you on which items need to be cleaned to a specific standard before packing, and which items may be refused or require MPI treatment on arrival.
Anglo Pacific provides an end-to-end removal service. This means we handle every stage of your move, from packing at your UK home through to final delivery and unpacking at your New Zealand address.
- Professional packing at your UK home using specialist materials, with a full itemised inventory
- Collection from anywhere in the UK, including Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
- Sea freight to your chosen New Zealand port, routed for the most appropriate sailing
- New Zealand Customs Service documentation and duty-free declaration preparation
- MPI biosecurity compliance advice before packing, and port handling on arrival
- Inland road delivery to your New Zealand address where required
- Delivery, unpacking, and removal of packing materials at your new home
Anglo Pacific handles removals from New Zealand to the UK as well as the outbound journey. Whether you are a returning British expat, a New Zealander relocating to the UK, or moving family members back to Britain, we manage collection from any New Zealand address, sea freight, UK customs clearance, and delivery to your UK home.
Transfer of Residence Relief for UK Returns
If you are returning to the UK after living abroad for at least 12 consecutive months and resuming normal residence here, you may be entitled to Transfer of Residence (ToR) Relief from HMRC. This allows you to import your personal belongings to the UK free of customs duty and VAT, subject to eligibility. We advise on the documentation required as part of your removal booking, and recommend confirming your eligibility with HMRC guidance or a UK customs specialist before your shipment departs New Zealand.
Transit Times: New Zealand to UK
Sea freight from New Zealand to the UK typically follows the same schedule as the outbound journey. Auckland to UK Groupage takes approximately 10 to 14 weeks; FCL takes approximately 8 to 12 weeks. Air freight from New Zealand to the UK is available for priority items and takes up to 10 days.
Over 40 Years of Experience on the New Zealand Route
Anglo Pacific has been moving people between the UK and New Zealand since the 1980s. Our team has detailed knowledge of New Zealand port procedures, MPI biosecurity requirements, New Zealand Customs Service documentation, and the realities of managing a removal across one of the world’s longest international shipping routes. Whether your destination is Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or a smaller town, we have the experience to manage the route reliably.
BAR and FIDI FAIM Accredited
We are members of the British Association of Removers (BAR) and hold FIDI FAIM accreditation, the international quality standard for the global moving industry. Groupage and FCL on Regular Sailings
We offer regular Groupage departures to New Zealand throughout the year, consolidating shipments at our UK warehouse for cost-efficient sea freight. For customers with larger volumes, our FCL service provides a faster transit on a confirmed departure schedule. Both options are available at your pre-move survey once your volume and timeline are known.
UK-Wide Collection
We collect from homes across the entire UK. Whether you are moving from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, or Belfast, we carry out a pre-move survey in person or by video call, assess your volume, and plan collection to fit your timetable.

Anglo Pacific handles the full range of household and personal effects for removals to New Zealand. From a single room of furniture to the entire contents of a large family home, we tailor the service to what you need.
Household Furniture and Effects
Sofas, beds, wardrobes, dining sets, white goods, and kitchen appliances can all be shipped in a Groupage or FCL container. We use specialist packing materials and, where required, custom crates for fragile or high-value items. All wooden furniture must meet MPI requirements and may need cleaning or treatment; your account manager will advise on this at the survey stage.
Small and Partial Removals to New Zealand
For customers moving a smaller volume of belongings, Groupage is the most appropriate and cost-effective option. You pay only for the space your goods occupy in the container, so there is no penalty for a smaller shipment. We regularly move one-bedroom apartments, part-loads of furniture, and selected personal effects to New Zealand using our Groupage service, making international removals accessible for moves that do not fill a full container.
Vehicles
Vehicles shipped to New Zealand must meet New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) standards and pass a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) inspection on arrival. Left-hand-drive vehicles are not permitted on New Zealand roads, which means most UK-registered vehicles are already suitable, as they are right-hand drive. Biosecurity cleaning of the engine bay, undercarriage, and tyres is required by MPI before a vehicle is cleared. Contact our team for vehicle-specific advice.
Personal Effects and Excess Baggage
If you are moving a smaller volume of personal effects, student belongings, or excess baggage rather than a full household removal, our baggage shipping service to New Zealand may be the more cost-effective route. Contact our team to compare Groupage and baggage shipping options for your volume.

Sea freight from the UK to Auckland and Christchurch takes 10 to 14 weeks by Groupage and 8 to 12 weeks by FCL (Full Container Load). FCL transit times are approximately 2 weeks shorter than Groupage for the same destination because the container departs without waiting for consolidation. Air freight to New Zealand takes up to 10 days and is available for priority items or smaller consignments. Where inland road delivery is required within New Zealand, this adds a further 7 to 21 days to the door-to-door timeline.
Groupage means your belongings share a standard shipping container with goods from other customers moving to the same New Zealand port. You pay for the space your consignment occupies, making it the most cost-effective option for smaller moves. FCL (Full Container Load) gives you sole use of a 20ft or 40ft container. The container departs as soon as it is loaded, without waiting for other consignments, giving a shorter and more predictable transit time. FCL is better suited to larger household moves and customers who need a confirmed departure schedule. Your account manager will recommend the right option at your pre-move survey based on your volume.
The cost depends on the volume of your belongings, whether you choose Groupage or FCL, your collection address in the UK, and your delivery city in New Zealand. Groupage is the most affordable option for smaller moves because you pay only for the space your goods occupy. FCL is priced on full container use and is more appropriate for larger households. We provide itemised, transparent quotes following a pre-move survey, with no hidden charges. Request a free quote online or call our New Zealand removals team.
New Zealand enforces strict biosecurity rules administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). All items in your shipment are subject to inspection on arrival. Items that require particular attention include wooden furniture and timber products with soil or bark traces, garden tools and outdoor sports equipment (especially footwear, bicycles, and camping gear), food items, seeds and plant material, and animal products including untreated leather and feathers. Your account manager will advise on which items need cleaning before packing and which may require MPI treatment or be refused entry. Preparing properly before packing significantly reduces the risk of delays at the New Zealand port.
Most used household goods and personal effects that have been owned and used for at least 12 months prior to departure can enter New Zealand duty-free, provided they are for personal use and not for resale. New items, gifts, and commercial goods may attract import duty or GST. Anglo Pacific prepares your New Zealand Customs Service documentation as part of the removal service and advises you on how to declare your goods accurately. Accurate declaration is particularly important for New Zealand, as MPI biosecurity inspections are thorough and undeclared items can result in significant delays and additional costs.
Yes. Groupage is specifically designed for customers with smaller volumes, including one-bedroom moves, furniture-only shipments, and part loads of personal effects. You pay only for the space your consignment occupies in the container, so Groupage is a cost-proportionate option regardless of how small your move is. We regularly consolidate smaller shipments to Auckland and Christchurch as part of our regular Groupage service to New Zealand.
We deliver to all major cities and towns in New Zealand. Auckland is the primary arrival port for North Island destinations, including Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, and Palmerston North. Christchurch at Lyttelton is the primary port for South Island destinations, including Dunedin, Queenstown, and Invercargill. For addresses requiring inland road delivery from the arrival port, an additional 7 to 21 days should be allowed. Your account manager will confirm the complete door-to-door timeline for your specific delivery address at the survey stage.
